MIAMI-OPA LOCKA AND BISCAYNE BAY
Miami Jet & Yacht Charter:
KOPF to Biscayne Bay.
Miami private aviation for a yacht day usually means Miami-Opa Locka Executive, KOPF, not the airline terminal at KMIA. The water is Miami Beach, Island Gardens, Coconut Grove or a Biscayne sandbar, and the transfer is long enough to plan.
Begin your charter brief
KOPF is the executive field. The skyline is the yacht side of the same brief.
THE FIELD
KOPF, the runway, and why KMIA is a different plan
Miami-Opa Locka Executive is KOPF, often spoken as OPF. Published references describe runway 09L/27R at about 8,002 feet. That length is a chart fact to confirm, and it is one reason longer-range aircraft are often discussed here when a Naples or island runway would be the wrong tool. It is still not a promise that every heavy jet, at every weight, uses this ramp on the day you want.
KMIA remains the right conversation when guests are already on an airline ticket or when a specific international clearance must happen there. Mixing KOPF and KMIA in one sentence wastes an hour of transfers. If half the party is commercial and half is private, say so. The yacht cannot wait at two airports.
International arrivals need the customs sequence the operator files. A domestic hop from Teterboro and a return from Exuma do not share a timeline. ALINARI will not invent block minutes from the mileage. Use the planning guide for distance and an assumed hourly band, then let the carrier price the actual duty.
| Marina or water | Transfer band to confirm | Typical day | Pair it with |
|---|---|---|---|
| Miami Beach Marina | About 25–40 minutes | Biscayne Bay or a coastal afternoon | A light or midsize jet when bags are simple |
| Yacht Haven Grande, Island Gardens | About 25–40 minutes | A larger motor yacht with marina services | A super-midsize or heavy jet when the cabin is full |
| Coconut Grove | About 25–40 minutes | A quieter start, still traffic-dependent | A sailing catamaran if the week continues south |
| Nixon Sandbar, tide permitting | After the marina pickup, not instead of a plan | A short Biscayne stop | A backup bay route if the tide is wrong |
| Bimini or Nassau | A flight, not the same taxi | A Bahamas yacht after Miami | The Nassau and Exuma flight guide |
THE BAY
Biscayne days, sandbars and the boat that fits
A Biscayne day is often a crewed motor yacht in the four-hour or eight-hour pattern on the motor yacht guide. The bay is protected compared with an ocean crossing, and it is still a captain’s decision when thunderstorms build. Eight hours buys a longer loop. It does not buy a guaranteed sandbar.
Nixon Sandbar is a request tied to tide and draft. Shallow boats and deeper motor yachts do not share that plan. If the point of the day is to stand in the water, say so, and accept a catamaran or a different hull if the first yacht draws too much.
Bimini is the short Bahamas thought that people attach to Miami. It is a real flight to MYBS, whose published runway is about 5,430 feet, and then a yacht. It is not a water taxi from Miami Beach in a charter brief unless that passage is truly what you are hiring. Read the Out Island flight guide when the runway, not the skyline, is the constraint.
THE BRIEF
Separate the ramp, the dock and the contract
The useful Miami note names KOPF or KMIA, the marina, the hours, the guest count and any bag that will not fit a light-jet door. Add whether the yacht week actually starts in the Keys. The Keys and Marquesas guide is the southbound continuation. Miami is the embarkation, not the whole itinerary.
ALINARI is the broker. All flights are operated by properly licensed carriers. The yacht is an independent vessel under its own agreement. The form does not take payment and it does not hold a ramp slot or a slip.
PLANNING DOSSIER
Miami constraints worth writing down
Saturday afternoon traffic between Opa-locka and Miami Beach can erase a casual 25-minute assumption. Put the yacht start after a buffer, not at the moment the wheels touch.
A heavy jet that needs KOPF for a transcontinental arrival may be the wrong aircraft for a same-day hop to a 5,000-foot island runway. Split the missions if the operator recommends it.
Island Gardens and a private residential dock are different security stories. Name the address if the yacht is meeting a house rather than a marina.
Provisioning for a week that starts in Miami and continues to the Bahamas belongs in the yacht APA, not in the jet hourly figure. Tell the desk which groceries and which dive bottles are essential.
If guests want a Biscayne sunset and a Nassau dinner, that is a flight plus a second boat or a very long day. Say which dinner matters.
Pets, celebrations and a request for a quiet interior rather than a flybridge change the yacht shortlist more than the airport does.
Return internationals into KOPF need the customs window on the way home as well. A Bahamas Saturday departure is not automatically a Sunday evening arrival.
The desk is email only at charter@alinariairandsea.com. Ross Alinari reads the brief. There is no published phone number to reach the ramp.
A KOPF arrival that continues to a Saturday sandbar should name the tide window in the same sentence as the aircraft. If the captain needs the yacht at the marina by late morning, the jet cannot be a casual noon departure from a northern city. Write the boarding hour first and let the flight move earlier.
Island Gardens can handle a larger yacht than a residential dock in Coconut Grove, and the drive from Opa-locka is not identical. If the boat is over about 80 feet, say so. The marina, not the skyline photo, decides whether the embarkation you want exists on that date.

MIAMI QUESTIONS
Questions that keep a Miami arrival and a yacht on the same day.
Why do charter briefs prefer KOPF to KMIA?
KOPF is Miami-Opa Locka Executive, the field most private charters use. KMIA is the airline airport. A private jet can use either only if the operator, the slot and the ground plan say so. Name the one you mean.
How long is the drive from KOPF to a yacht marina?
Plan about 25 to 40 minutes to Miami Beach Marina, Yacht Haven Grande at Island Gardens, or Coconut Grove, depending on traffic and the exact dock. That band excludes customs and FBO release.
Can a Biscayne Bay day include the Nixon Sandbar?
Only when tide, draft and the captain agree. Put it as a request. A sandbar is not a marina and it is not available on every Saturday in season.
Does one contract cover the jet and the yacht?
No. The flight is with a properly licensed direct air carrier. The yacht is a separate maritime agreement. ALINARI brokers both and operates neither.
