EXUMA CAYS ITINERARY
An Exumas Week:
Seven nights, one crewed yacht.
A seven-night Exumas charter is a sequence of short hops, park rules and a draft limit, not a list of beaches. Most weeks start near Nassau or Highbourne Cay and finish within reach of Exuma International if guests are flying out of MYEF.
Begin your charter brief
A shallow-draft catamaran is the usual tool. A deep-draft motor yacht needs a different route.
THE WEEK
A day order you can hand to a captain
Day one is usually Nassau or a Highbourne Cay start after the guests land. If the aircraft uses MYNN, the marina transfer is part of the first afternoon, not a free extra. If the yacht is already in the cays, the flight might be MYEF and a longer car. Pick one and tell the flight guide.
Norman’s Cay and the park stops at Warderick Wells and Cambridge Cay depend on moorings. The Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park is not a first-come anchorage you can assume in March. Shroud Cay and Compass Cay are requests. Staniel Cay is the provisioning and Thunderball Grotto day, and it is also where a marina can reset a week that has been living on the hook.
The last day should be able to reach the airport you are actually using. A sunset at Cambridge Cay is a poor plan if the flight leaves MYEF at noon. Build the disembarkation backward from the aircraft.
| Day | Planning stop | Draft note | Flexibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Nassau or Highbourne Cay | Deeper start if the yacht needs it | Match MYNN or the marina |
| 2 | Norman’s Cay | Confirm the approach | Weather from the north |
| 3 | Warderick Wells | Park mooring, not a promise | Have Cambridge or Shroud as alternates |
| 4 | Staniel Cay and Thunderball | Marina option | Provisioning day |
| 5 | Compass Cay | Nurse sharks are not a schedule | Tide |
| 6 | Cambridge Cay | Park rules again | Swim stops change with wind |
| 7 | Toward MYEF | Leave time for the airport | Do not plan a beam reach at dawn |
THE YACHT
Catamaran draft or a motor yacht with a tender
Crewed sailing catamarans in the Lagoon and Sunreef class are the usual Exumas tool because drafts around 4.5 to 5.8 feet, confirmed per model, open the banks. Read the catamaran guide. A monohull with an 8 to 14 foot keel belongs on the sailing yacht page and a different route.
A large motor yacht can still be the right brief if the guests want a crew, a tender and Nassau berthing more than they want Staniel’s shallows. The large yacht guide covers APA and MYNN slips. Do not force that hull onto a park mooring drawn for a catamaran.
Weekly planning bands on this site run about 30,000 to 150,000 dollars and above before APA and tax. Your boat will not be the whole band. The agreement states the fee, the APA percentage and 10% Bahamas VAT and applicable Bahamas Port Department charter fees (confirmed per vessel in the written charter agreement)
THE BRIEF
What the captain needs besides a mood
Dates, guest count, cabins, draft tolerance, MYNN or MYEF, and whether anyone scuba dives with their own gear. Food preferences belong in the APA conversation. A request to visit every beach in the brochure is how weeks break. Pick three must-stops.
ALINARI does not own the yacht. All flights, if you add them, are operated by properly licensed carriers. Email charter@alinariairandsea.com.
PLANNING DOSSIER
Exumas week notes
March moorings in the park disappear early. A flexible order is a feature.
Thunderball Grotto is a swim, not a private booking. Go early or accept company.
Generator hours and air conditioning on a catamaran are a comfort topic for guests who think they booked a motor yacht.
A chase tender for toys is a large-yacht item. A catamaran week usually carries less and moves lighter.
Fuel and cases of water are APA, not a surprise at the dock on day seven.
If a guest must take a call on a specific day, put that day near Staniel or Nassau, not on a mooring with a weak radio plan.
The color of the water is not a depth sounding. Trust the captain’s refusal.
One email thread for the flight and the yacht keeps the airport and the marina on the same date.
Guests often ask for both the Exumas and a night in Nassau with a restaurant. That night is easy at the start and expensive at the end if the flight is MYEF. Choose. A week that tries to be a city weekend and a park week will do neither well, and the APA will show the fuel for the extra miles. The captain’s suggested order is usually the one that still has a mooring when you arrive.
Park moorings at Warderick Wells are the week’s scarce resource. If you do not have a flexible day order, you do not have an Exumas week in March. Tell the captain which two stops are emotional and which are optional. The optional ones are how the boat stays legal and pleasant.
A catamaran generator running all night at a park mooring is both a comfort choice and a neighbor problem. Ask what the boat does for air conditioning on the hook. Guests who need a silent night and guests who need a cold cabin are booking different yachts.
The finish near MYEF only works if the last night is close enough. Cambridge Cay at sunset and a noon flight is a story people tell after they miss the aircraft. Put the flight time in the yacht brief on day one.
APA spending in the Exumas is fuel, water, park fees and food, not a surprise tip invented at the dock. Ask for the percentage and for what the captain will not buy without asking. The statutory Bahamas wording still has to appear as its own line.

EXUMAS QUESTIONS
Draft, parks and the invoice.
What does a seven-night Exumas route look like?
A common planning sequence is Nassau or Highbourne Cay, Norman’s Cay, Warderick Wells, Staniel Cay and Thunderball Grotto, Compass Cay, Cambridge Cay, and a finish that can reach Exuma International. Weather and moorings rewrite the order.
Can a deep-draft yacht do the same beaches?
Not always. Many of the celebrated stops assume something under about six feet. A larger motor yacht may stay in Nassau or outside the banks and send a tender. Say which experience you are buying.
What is added to the weekly rate?
Budget an advance provisioning allowance, often 25 to 35 percent and sometimes higher, plus this Bahamas fee language confirmed in the agreement: 10% Bahamas VAT and applicable Bahamas Port Department charter fees (confirmed per vessel in the written charter agreement)
Who runs the yacht?
An independent owner and captain under MYBA, IYC or a similar agreement. ALINARI is the intermediary and does not operate the vessel. Any flight is a separate contract with a licensed air carrier.
